China
is the world's second largest economy, and Chinese companies offer many
employment opportunities in the US and elsewhere. How can you get a job with a
Chinese company? Mr. McDivitt will talk about his journey from majoring in the
humanities to working for the Chinese company Fuyao, the world's largest
automotive glass supplier. He will share insights about Chinese company
culture, working in China vs. working in America, and how taking language
classes in college came in handy!
Fuyao's
factory in Dayton, Ohio, is chronicled in the Netflix documentary American
Factory, in which Mr. McDivitt appears. This film examines America through the
eyes of Chinese workers and managers coming to work at a factory in the rust
belt. NPR's Money Planet says American Factory is a must watch because it is
"the view we never get" about "how China feels about working
with America." "One of the most interesting [films] to come along in
a while," Money Planet concludes. Though not required, why not watch this
movie before attending the talk?
For
those without a Netflix subscription, we have permission from Netflix to stream
this documentary for members of our university.
