The University of South Alabama’s glass art program is excited
to announce its fourth annual glass pumpkin patch fundraiser. Students, faculty
and alumni have created more than 1,000 handmade glass pumpkins of all shapes,
colors and sizes to celebrate the fall season.
Funds generated from pumpkin sales will go toward upgrading
glass studio equipment, bringing in visiting artists, and further supporting
student and public opportunities within the program.
“This is a great opportunity for students to showcase their work
and gain experience in a retail setting,” said Matthew Patterson, associate
professor in the College of Arts and Sciences Department of Art and Art
History. “Artists will earn 60 percent of all work sold and 40 percent of the
proceeds will go towards the glass program to keep equipment online and develop
educational opportunities for future glass students.”
The pumpkin patch sale is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 22, from
8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Glass Art Building on the University of South
Alabama campus at 501 N. University Blvd., Mobile, AL 36608 (Entrance 7). Glass
pumpkins will be priced at $20 and up. Purchases can be made via cash, check or
credit card.
South is the only university in Alabama that offers a four-year
Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in studio glass. The Glass Studio was founded in
2010 in a state-of-the-art facility for glassblowing, casting and kiln formed
glass.
